Re: Canon EOS 7D - seriously tempted!

If you are looking to take action videos of the dogs Azz, my experience of in camera video is not favourable. For set up, static shots the 5D MkII is great but my Panny HD digicam knocks it into touch for action shots.

Steve

ps. This was shot on the 5D. A bit under exposed because the light changed from setting the exposure to actually taking the shot, No auto exposure whilst taking the movie

I really like the idea of the Nikon 700 in fact it it was a Canon (becase of the lenses I own) I'd have bought it.

I could never decide between the 5DII or 7D so didn't get either.

Image quality is obviously the aim with full frame and there's no doub't (in this £ group) the 5DII rules over the 7D

The 700 however handles noise so well having less MP crammed in and as a result can also give you 8fps compared to the 5DII's 3.9. The Canon 7D can match the 700 for speed but with 19MP on a crop sensor things get cramped for image quality.
Thanks for the info Phil. D700 does sound pretty good when you sum it up like that - only major downside is it doesn't have any video. Upside is it's meant to be getting replaced this year, so they may well be getting sold cheaper when that happens.

I thought the IQ of the 7D was meant to be pretty good?

I did but I think if I was excited about my gear I would lug it around - and to get excited about gear is usually to get something new LOL

Thanks Steve. I thought the video mode was meant to be pretty good on the 5Dmk2 - isn't that 'house' program meant to be getting it's final episode shot with them?

Re: Canon EOS 7D - seriously tempted!

Azz

It is good if you are prepared to set the shot up and take time and care over it. Going from a HD digicam to the 5D for video was like going from a all singing DSLR back to a manual SLR. Terrific results if you know what to do and have the time to set the shot up.

The 7D may be a bit more user friendly but the 5D does demand a lot from the user.

Just looking - and guess what the Canon 5D mk2 is now cheaper than the D700!!!!

Have no idea why Nikon prices always stay fairly 'high' yet Canon lower their prices after the initial launch phase
