My nephew...18months

I'm just wandering what you think of this picture. I've left it un-edited so it's as taken from camera. I'd like to improve my portraits of people, how can I improve?

Re: My nephew...18months

I like it! Melanie. I'm no expert lol there are users on here who are really good with portraits! KK for one, But I would just keep doing what your doing! experament with lighting, differant Focal lengths, and different poses. Keep posting and asking other people for there opinions and never, never, never get put off! If you like it then it doesn’t matter what other people think! Lol just enjoy yourself and keep up the good work!

Re: My nephew...18months

Nice shot

#
I would do as FB said and just keep on practising taking loads and loads. In this pic I think it is blown on the left hand side and you could have given his nose a bit more breathing room also... maybe wipe the food of his face first lol Nice shot tho!

Re: My nephew...18months

I'm not sure.

I find it a little spooky, sorry.

Reminds me of "Chucky".

The food could quite easily be cloned out and maybe a bit of blur to soften it a bit.

Remember, this is purely a personal comment and loads of people would love the photo.

I feel really mean know

Re: My nephew...18months

Hmm kinda with Steve on this, maybe an even tighter crop to lose the space on the right hand side and concentrate on his eyes, bring them out a little too and or even try it in B&W

Re: My nephew...18months

5 min on CS3, given more time it could look better I think B&W would soften the look of the pic myself, of course i'm prob wrong lol as Steve said it's a very subjective thing this photography lark

Re: My nephew...18months

Have to say I'm with Steve and Grant on this one, was going to post earlier and then realise why I don't like to do critiques.

Think the lightings a bit bright on the eyebrows etc.

Re: My nephew...18months

Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
I would have given the nose more room, but he was coming at the camera so fast! If I edited it, the first thing I would do would be get rid of the food.
What do you mean by blown out? I thought the sunlight would be nice, does it depend on the picture?
I do like it in black and white, but I also like his bright blue eyes. Is there a way I could edit it that would make them come out and soften the overall image?

Re: My nephew...18months

yeah you could make it B&W the colour pop the blue eyes, then maybe soften the rest of the image , so much you can play with

Re: My nephew...18months

hello there, here are a few that only took 5 mins start to finish for all 3!! on cs3

1, this was just a simple b&w with the added colour pop to the blue eyes.

2 in this I lightend the whole image and reduced the contrast.

3 and in this I just had a little play bout with the eye colour!

a bit rough IF you took the time you could do a lot better but it just gives a general idea.

I hope you didn't mind me editing your pic! if you did feel free to delete this post and sorry!
