2005 Moon (full 6mp image)

Looking through old astro images I came across a series of Moon pics taken on January 29th 2005, I think these are amongst my best as the seeing/air this night must have been very steady as they are all quite sharp. Taken with my 300d and a 6" refractor. This one is the full 6mp image.

Kit 1
Canon 5D MKII
Canon 400mm f5.6 L
Canon 70-200mm f4.0 L
Canon 17-40mm f4.0 L
Kit 2
Canon 50d

Re: 2005 Moon (full 6mp image)

Great image DJ

Looks even better at full size - amazing clarity and detail.

I was wondering (you may know) what are the two very bright 'objects' in the sky just now ? They stand out really brightly as it starts to get dark. I think they are quite low in the South West.
Kit 1
Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2
1D2 & 40D

Thanks JR

Thanks Phil. Those two bright objects you see are Jupiter and Venus. They were closest together on Monday the 1st, including the Moon, which won't be seen again untill 2012.

Have to agree with the others, that is a fantastic picture. Just thinking what a great place to go off roading with a 4x4. No traffic and virgin trails.

Re: 2005 Moon (full 6mp image)

...excellent. You can see so much detail. Is this picture in colour or BW?

I was amazed to do a pic a month or so back just handheld with my 70-300 VR. Not the way to do for real but just to try the VR and it worked. If anyone has even a 300mm lens or more you can get a reasonable image. This pic as always from DJ is excellent and would be brill if you have any other planet pictures DJ?

...and to think there are a few Hasselblads and a free car discarded up there for the taking if anyone can make it. You can just make them out with the US flag if you look very carefully near that light spot at about 4 o'clock on the full size image. Of course many believe there won't be anything there as it was all done in a studio if you think it was all one of the great conspiracies of the 20th century...
