Quick Release System Design Project

Hi everyone,

I'm a product design student and I'm designing a quick release camera mounting system for a project. I was wondering what the general consensus on quick release systems was in the photography community.
Do you guys use quick release systems?
Which systems do you use?
What makes them good?
What difficulties do you have?
What do you think of the current market and pricing?
If you don't use these systems, why not?
I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or feedback on anything to do with quick release systems.
