Default camera reset (Nikon D200)

Having seen in the instruction manual about resetting the camera it says there are two ways of doing it, either via the menu or by pressing two buttons on top of the camera together which have green dots on them.
By doing this yes it resets what I would call the top layer of settings, but when you get deeper into the camera menu it does NOT do the following.

Memory banks are not reset nor are the white balance preset features IE d0 to d4. I suspect there may be even more settings at this level which also are not reset.

This I would think applies to all Nikon cameras but not having other versions I cannot say for sure. So as far as I can fathom out you cannot reset back to the original factory settings. Just something to be aware of and maybe it applies to other makes as well.

I use the green buttons on my Nikon D50 and you're right. Unlike Canon's 'clear settings' (which wipes the whole lot) the green dots reset all the 'photographic' stuff like ISO, White Balance, focus, exposure settings but it doesn't reset all the stuff like auto rotate, camera beeps, lcd display time etc which you would otherwise then have to go and set again.

Re: Default camera reset (Nikon D200)

Azz I thought so to but it refers to just the basic settings not those above. Thinking on it further it obviously doesn't reset the shutter actuation count either, which in this case is understandable.
