Monitor & Printer Calibration, Wait 24 hours for the ink to dry and bond

Last week, I upgraded my Pantone Huey to Huey Pro; all that was required was a software upgrade as both products use the same hardware. After reading many reviews and opinions on both the forum and the internet, I felt that this would be the cheapest option for me.

The point I would like to bring to the attention of the forum members is the true amount of time that it takes for ink to dry, before comparing the result with the image on your monitor.

I watched a YouTube video on a demo of the ColorMunki Photo. The demonstrator Joe Brady, Color Systems Product Manager MAC Group US, said that it was best to wait twenty-four hours before scanning the photo paper with the printed colours and using them to set a printer profile, as it takes that long for the ink to dry properly and bond with the paper to show the true result.

Waiting 10 minutes as suggested by ColorMunki will result in ink that is dry to the touch, but the colours will be darker until the ink has bonded with the medium properly. Therefore, he recommends waiting until the following day to scan the print, to generate the printer profile.

The above explains why I was unhappy with my photo prints after upgrading; I found the result much darker than that on the monitor. Now after about three days, the prints are much closer to the image on the monitor.

So how does that equate to using HP Advanced Photo Paper which is instant dry ?
