Yes they can get quite aggressive at times. We are now having a buzzard land in our lower paddock most evenings. They are really huge birds when close up

Lovely looking birds, brilliantly timed shot. We have Goldfinches round here, but they're very shy. I've managed one shot only at the wrong end of a zoomed telephoto. I'd be delighted with a shot like that one, it's given me something to, if you'll pardon the pun, aim for

Don't know much about your camera but this is what I do. First get a feed station, in this case dry sunflower seed in a feeder as shown. Next I set up the camera on a tripod with a long lens, typical 70-300mm and focus it on a perch on the feeder. Now the crafty bit, I use a wireless remote control and sit in my office more or less out of sight (about 30yards away) then wait, of course the camera has to be set on continuous high speed fps (the Nikon D300 with battery grip pack will do about 8 fps).

Then its just patience, and you need a lot of it as soon as the shutter fires it scares the birds away. Then its purely down to a certain amount of luck I have to confess as you can't see the pictures taken until later.

If you can put a cover over most of the camera it stops birdie do dos splashing on it.

Then again you can mess up by using a too slow shutter speed.

The problem I have is that I am 5 stories up in a block of flats, and were I to set up a feeder on the balcony then the camera would have to be on a tripod 57 feet tall

However, in terms of framerate it will happily turn out 12 a second until the card is full or the battery is flat, and almost silently...so I may have to take the camera, a feeder, a folding seat and a stick to mount the feeder and set it all up in the local park. Then all I'd need is a good book...I'm told "50 shades of Grey" is an ideal book, being a definitive workshop on monochrome photography.
