perhaps it just me then but I thought the eye was soft ,highlights blown and a distracting bit of grass behind its beak other than thats its a very good shot

No editing done, picture as taken at the time. Yes no doubt a tweak here and there would help but I havn't bothered. Full Kuso exif viewing, any editing would not allow full breakdown of data. Only resized to comply with bandwith.
There is the old maxim of get it right in the camera and no or little editing needed.
AS you can appreciate photographing wildlife is completely different to any other sort of photography. You only get the one chance, you can't "set up" a shoot, take several pictures with different camera settings. Its there and then or nothing which is one of the reasons I like doing it.
