Little and Large

I know some people think feeders in pictures are ugly, but I loved these two posing for me today.....

Hey they like looking at you don't they? And they don't seem to fly off - will have to start calling you the bird whisperer lol

Two of the doves have got used to me Azz. It's amazing how close they let me come near them.

(ps, the tomato plants at the back are at an end lol)

I do have that problem too Dave, very rarely being able to image garden birds without them being on the feeders. Sometimes wish i had kept the trees, i had 4 fairly large ones chopped down a few years ago to open up the view when i got into Astronomy...Although saying that about the trees neighbours either side of us have fairly large trees in their gardens and to spot the birds in them is somewhat difficult.

Brilliant - They really are posing for you aren't they.

If you're keen to get pictures of the birds on branches rather than on feeders - just tie a small branch or long twig to the vertical pole at an angle and they will land on them before moving on to feed. It might look a bit silly but once you zoom in or crop the image you'd just think it was sat in a tree.

I'm sometimes lucky Mark and I get one on a fence, once cropped it doesn't look as bad.

As Phil said - that's what I do. My feeders are all tied on a line across the garden. Under that I have big planters with sand in, and I put big twigs/bits of driftwood etc in those to make interesting perches. I vary them occasionally to make the shots a bit different. Also nice to get mroe seasonal shots by draping interesting seasonal plants aroudn them too... for example binding some honeysuckle vines around the branch - when the bird lands it adds extra colour and interest
