Re: Middleton in Tees

Not sure sure about this one Stu.

You will know fine well that the contrast is way up and there's blown highlights so I'll asume that's the look you've gone for.

Compostion wise is all going down the middle - point of interest wise no one element seems to grab me - foreground is bland, the water is too far away to have impact, the trees are lost in darkness and the sky (whilst having some good areas) just has all the same tones so is merging with the trees.

I love the big punchy contrasty mono stuff that you do with street photography when there's an definate subject and buildings to create definate light / shade but with a soft landscape - unless you have a main point of attention - the whole scene just becomes a kind of rectangular mix of black and white.

EEK - I've just read that over again and it seems like a really negative post. Don't mean it to be but - I'll go ahead and post as I know you're one of folk who like to get opinions. What I do like is that you're doing some landscapes - something I'm missing just now.

Re: Middleton in Tees

Much too black (mood & tone) for my taste but like it a lot better after applying PS shadow/highlight filter at 30%.

Re: Middleton in Tees

I really like the top part, just find the very bright section in the foreground too distracting?

Re: Middleton in Tees

I think the sky is great, and it's very dramatic, but I do agree with Phil - and there seems to be no real focus... which means my eye wanders.

That sky though! <3
