A few from my recent trip

I recently went to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons for several weeks, family holiday, but also combining quite a bit of photography when possible. First holiday I have ever lost weight on, due to lugging all my gear everywhere. Did a lot of mountain hiking, as well as horse riding, fly fishing, rafting, and just taking in the beautiful scenery. This is a sample, have a lot more to go though

Summit of Rendezvous Mountain, looking over the Grand Tetons.

Loved the contrast of the fenced in Rancher's Cattle and the totally free ranging Bison

Alpine snow melt running down towards the Gallatin River.

Yellow bellied Marmot, Montana. He ran up and down the rocks as I hiked up the trail.

Grand Prismatic Spring from the ground, Yellowstone

Bald Eagle, Montana

Mormon Row, Grand Tetons

Grizzly bear, yellowstone

Wolf, Lamar valley, Yellowstone

The beds near Turquoise Pool, Yellowstone

Whay hay, nice to see you back. Looks like you had a fantastic holiday. Love the set, especially Summit Rendezvous, Alpine snow melt, Grand prismatic Spring, Mormon Row and the beds nr Turqouise Pool shots.

How did you get on with the hired lens, did you use that for the animal shots? I wouldn't have wished to be too near the Grizzly.

Hi, I posted because I knew you'd like them, I have a lot of mountain shots to sort through, and the views are stunning.

Thanks carole It was, it was something we have wanted to do for a long time, but have put off till the kids were old enough to truly appreciate it, enjoy it and physically able to do the hikes without whinging

I did, it was everything I expected and more. Had a great time.
Landscapes mostly my 24-70, the 80 - 400 was great for most wildlife, the grizzly is cropped a little, and the bald eagle which was sat below me as I hiked, it was on a bridge looking over a gorge, and it was hard going shooting down through the trees. The grizzly was at a safe distance, and I was constantly aware of what it was doing. A lot of the time I just watched rather than take the picture, as otherwise all you see is the park through the lens.
The wolf shots I got are when I went wolf tracking, and even then it is cropped. Branches, grass, rocks etc all get in the frame, it's hard to get a clean shot unless they are completely in the open. I did get some wolves running across a ridge with my 80-400, but they are just blobs in the distance

I would love to go again solely for photography, with a great telephoto, but I'm happy with what I got all things considered.

You also see a lot of people being idiots, getting way too close to the Bison and Elk with iPhones trying to get a picture. Everyone worries about bear attacks, when Bison kill more people in the park, mostly because they are invading their space.

Will post some more soon x x x
