Market stall ( with pole)

I have a shot of a market stall, which I like but it has a pole dead centre so much have looking at the subject. I only had a trial version of photoshop and have no other editing software. If I had, could I sucsessfully clone it out?

Problem Azz, it was taken in Paris, so no opportunity to reshoot.

Re: Market stall ( with pole)

You can take it out, as Azz has shown, however, I don't think having it there is neccessarily a bad thing - I just think it's a learning curve for the future, as you could almost use the pole to good effect - problem is it's a bit too central, and slightly wonky to work in this photo.

I love Azz's edit - good photo - it is a shame the pole isn't either missing or used to good effect.

Re: Market stall ( with pole)

Thanks Azz, I prefer it without the pole. I must be missing something as I can not see the benefit of a pole even if off centre and straight. Surely it just distracts from the composition of the radishes?

Re: Market stall ( with pole)

I think (and obv. can't see without trying it out because I am rubbish! ) that if the pole came in on one of the lines in the thirds, then it would be rather striking to the eye - and not distracting at all - wish I could show you, but I can't I know what I mean in my mind's eye!

Re: Market stall ( with pole)

For me the pole just doesn't work, it just shouldn't be there in the first place. Appreciate this will sound a little harsh, but I don't think the picture is good enough to invest the time and effort required to clone out that pole to the standard required for the picture to be useful. However, learning curve, get down the local market, find the right angle and bang a few shots out. Avoid the poles, you need some human interest to add to the picture...not easy, you need a nerve to have a market trader looking straight at you but you can do it. The only other way may be to make the vegetables the feature in which case they need to be excellent colourful examples or unusual. But if you look at the pic, there isn't really any feature to keep your attention. I know I won't be on your christmas card list, but it's meant to be helpful.

Re: Market stall ( with pole)

I don't have a problem with constructive crititism and it will take a lot more to rock my boat!
Having said that I still quite like the photo and you are right, it takes a lot of nerve to take photos of markets with the glare of the holder, particularly parisians
As you can see in this ( which I am sure you will not like either but to prove your point) taken with the market holder's back towards me
Still at least I think I am beginning to look at colours and objects a little more than a month or 2 ago
