Seen this on the news yesterday. While I understand in this day and age the shopping centers policy, it's just a shame for the millions of innocent people.
I'm glad they have reversed their policy. After all, if someone wanted to do damage they would.
Bluewater shopping center near me has wonderful architecture. I asked not long ago at the help desk there if I could take some picture of the inside. It was a big no no.

I always thought it was a ridiculous policy - if any terrorists want to film a shopping centre they can buy one of several 'hidden' type cameras that would largely go undetected. :/

I still feel sorry for the no win situation for the security firms............if something now happens we will jump on them and ask where the security was

How does it make it 'safe'? Anyone who wants to film some place can do so quite covertly - without drawing attention to themselves. In fact, banning photography will make them do just that - at least if they do it out in the open there will be CCTV footage that can be scrutinised.

I didnt say ban .................but all the chap had to do was show security his pictures but he made a stand and the police had to be called ,they looked at the pictures and the ok was given .
I was stopped twice in one day at Tower Bridge and I was happy someone is interested in my safety

I'm not sure I'd be happy showing my pictures tbh - I just don't see the point or how it would make any difference.

Of course shopping centres are private property so they can have a no-photo ban if they want ...just risk upsetting customers

I have to admit that I think things have got a bit out of hand with photography, but I guess a lot has changed over the years with the advent of terrorism and the internet, pictures we take can be shown to such a large audience and also put to other uses.

Look at the case of pictures taken outside downing street, where visiting ministers leaving number 10 have had letters that have been readable. Therefore I guess our subject/s (including people) are more concerned where they may turn up.

I do worry that photography is becoming less acceptable at some major events, meets, shows and venues, also now that DSLR's shoot video things will only get worse.

[tongue in cheek] Soon we will only be able to shoot in our own gardens & homes

Terrorism and child safety is probably the main reasons for no photos. But............... most of these shopping centers display lovely big maps of the area????? If the maps are no good have a look on Google images, plenty to see.
It doesn't take a scientist to work out where most damage could be done.

It's ridiculous and doesn't increase safety for anyone!!! I'm glad there was a decent outcome to all of this - and to be honest, I'm not sure I'd be happy to ever shop somewhere that treats its customers like that *makes mental note to avoid the connected stores*.

Whatever happened to common sense?!
