A Question For Birders

I have no idea what kind of bird this is. I would guess an egret of some kind. I like the shot, delicacy and color.

Re: A Question For Birders

I would think you are right on the identification, Bob.

It's the lighting that does it for me. A cracking image - well done.

Re: A Question For Birders

Can't help too much with the ID as all my birdy books are UK/Europe. Might it be a young one ?

Whatever it is - it's a cracking shot Bob, nicely exposed, good detail, lovely background and the composition is spot on.

The original needed some subtle editing Phil as the eye area was heavily in shadow. Thanks to Nik software's Vivesa 2 I was able to lighten it to look much better. I love that Photoshop Plug-in. Thanks for the kind critique. I know you're an extremely good birder.

Re: A Question For Birders

I did some digging on the Portland, OR Zoo web page and found my bird, a cattle egret. Again, not being a birder I've never heard of that variety but at least my instincts about it being an egret were correct. One point for me.

Re: A Question For Birders

I didn't catch the ID of this bird and I see lots of cattle egrets..somehow the ones I see are different...thinner....whiter unless stained with red clay..this might be a young bird, still has some cinnamon coloring most cranes have. A very good picture of it.. I like the opening beak, as if it is about to speak..Shirley
