Lock keepers house

Took myself off for a walk today, blimey it was cold...when someone wanted to chat I realised my words weren't coming out right my face was so cold. So shot off a few images here and there, lighting was a bit flat yet again and lots of people to get in the way. Still a good chance for some exercise, a play with the camera and my new walking gps (no, this gps doesn't connect to camera - it just stops me getting lost).

Re: Lock keepers house

I like this photo BC. There are plenty of interesting areas in it. Using B&W was a good choice and is well done.

Re: Lock keepers house

Nice composition BC.

I think you can enhance the picture in PP more by increasing the levels and contrast, dodging the clouds in a bit, cloning out the 'orange' netting to the left of the log pile, and selective burning and dodging to add dimension and lift the flatness of the image.

That might sound a lot, but its really only 5 mins work in PS.

As the picture is I find it a little washed out and flat. But I do like the subject and composition.

Re: Lock keepers house

JR, How did you know it was ORANGE netting? Just a guess that netting is always orange?!

Thanks for the tips, I'm still learning with PP. I need a different monitor soon, my laptop is not up to it which will help assess better I agree it needs more 'bite'.

Re: Lock keepers house

BC, it's orange because you simply did a saturation reduction rather that the other methods of converting to monochrome. Even mono colours have a original colour signature

I had a play with this pic - as I often do, and by cropping it lower, and doing the things in my last post, made quite a striking picture.

PP is great, but when I did my training in PS, our instructor told us all that while PS is brilliant....without a good picture to start with, it is soon redundant!

PM me - I may be of help to you
