Sony A350 (vs A300 and A200)

Hi -

I have yet to venture into the world of DSLR's, however I am on the verge of taking the plunge !!

I have been looking at the Sonys - (I've loved the p&s's that I have had).

Reading on the dpreview site there doesn't seem to be a lot between the a200/300 and 350 - I think i would like the option of live view which is why I was looking at the 350, although the 300 also has live view I can't see much difference in the price and so may as well go for the 350....

I'm very confused

Re: Sony A350 (vs A300 and A200)

The 350 has more pixels too Tassle, at a whopping 14 Megapixels !! That will be handy if you like to crop your images.

The main differences between the A350 and A300 are:
  • The sensor resolution
  • Continuous shooting speed (the A300 has 10.2 Megapixels and shoots at 3fps, while the A350 has 14.2 Megapixels and shoots at 2.5fps)
  • The lower resolution makes the A300 slightly cheaper, but otherwise, they are almost identical

Has that helped or made things harder?

Re: Sony A350 (vs A300 and A200)

Kind of made it harder

Its Such a lot of money I just want to get it right, but apparently the a300 is only avalible from certain retailers.

The continuous shooting would probably be better as I do want to be able to catch the action shots which seem so elusive form the point and shoot... (I am assuming that 3fps would give me more of a chance than 2.5fps.....trust me - I need all the help I can get! )

Thanks for the help

Re: Sony A350 (vs A300 and A200)

Is there any specific reason why you want a Sony? Nikon and Canon make some awesome DSLRs in that range too

Re: Sony A350 (vs A300 and A200)

I've always got on well with the sonys and I love the cybershots. I got off to a bad start with the canon when someone was introducing me to the DSLR's and I couldn't get along with it at all.

Not had a lot to do with the Nikons, but have played about with the sonys instore and love the feel and weight of them. I have spoken to a few friends who have sonys who swear by them.

I haven't done anything definate yet so still open to pursuasion.....

AZzzzzzzz you are doing again

There are other brands beside Nikon and Canon, and I was really interested in the Sony's and swayed between those and the Oly.

Tassle read loads of reviews, and compare all the different cameras, and go into shops and try them in your hand, to see if you like the feel of them.

This months practical photography has a review of the Sony a350 it got an excellent review.

Also this site is fantastic for comparing different cameras, and giving indepth reviews.. http://www.dpreview.com

There is also the Olympus E-420, that has good reviews, and it isn't that big and bulky.......

Now I am going to hide before Azz kills me

I have only had mine a few months, and won't believe how many hours I spent try to choose, I really am clueless with all the techhie terms, so don't worry about it Dpreview is very good though, buy this months Practical Photography it is an indepth review of the camera , in English!!!

I had so many pieces of paper with prices, and specs, and shops, etc Good luck xx

I do like the Sony's too - their quality is top notch and you usually get more for your money, esp the in camera stabilisation, that will save you a fortune on lens

Oly's are great as well (better say that or Moon will kill me )
