Full frame digital just means that the sensor is the same size as the negative on a 35mm film. Most sensors are smaller than this and so the image is "cropped" from what a FX or 35mm cam would give. So an fx format camera will give a wider field of view compared to a dx at the same focal length.
However dx gives a greater magnification for the same focal length due to the cropping, so an fx cam will need a longer focal length to achieve the same magnification.
