Red Kites in flight

A couple shots of Red kites taken at Ballymack farm in Dumfrieshire a few days ago. Many more Red kites here compared with Argatty, and cheaper too. You also have the freedom of choosing not be in the hide which was fantastic as it was much easier getting shots and the birds did not seem to mind either as they were flying only about 20ft over our heads. I really was spoiled at this place for shots, the birds also stayed around for a very long time. The only downside is most of the birds are tagged with very few having no tags at all or were hidden, but the big differance with the tags here and Argatty is the tags on the birds are quite small, unlike Argatty which are enormous , Argaty also have a few that do not seem to be tagged.
The weather started off really great when we visited Loch doon castle first but it turned rather grey when we arrived at the farm, no problem though, just a couple of stops of + ec and that solved that. Highly recommended, I'd go back.

Excellent captures DJ. Top notch stuff, although the white skies really let the shots down for me. Nothing much you can do about that though, but they kinda look like they've been cut out and pasted on a plain white background which is a real shame but I will say again...excellent captures. I know how difficult it is to get these shots just right

LoL yes, they certainly do look a bit like cardboard cutouts MD, even more so because there is no sense of movement on the wings either because of the fast shutter speed I used. shhhhh don't tell anyone, they actually are cardboard cutouts, I just cloned the sticks out that were holding them up lol

Thanks anyway Ian

Re: Red Kites in flight

No we certainly cannot Laura, I'm going to use a more natural looking background next time and get someone to wave the cardboard cutouts about for a better sense of movement LOL
