Loch Lomond at Dusk

Hi guys

I wasn't sure if I should have put these in the Landscapes folder, but seeing as the night sky features quite heavily in them, I thought I'd stick them in here

These were taken on the shores of Loch Lomond tonight ( Sunday).

This tree and the line of rocks, are sometimes partially submerged in the water, which is what I was hoping to find tonight, as they make great long exposure shots when they're in the Loch, but the water level was way down so I had to make do with them on the pebble beach.

I'm gonna head back here again very soon, as well as a few other nice wee locations I spotted on the way, but I'll try and time it better when the water level is up

Re: Loch Lomond at Dusk

Thanks guys

Yup Little Me...light painting, just like DJ suggested trying a week or so ago.

He provided a link to some examples from another photographer, and this is the actual tree that this guy used.

It's better when the water is higher though, because it stands there like a solitary mangrove, and it's quite beautiful to photograph. I think DJ has actually posted a shot of it in the water before.

I'll definitely be going back.

And yeah Azz, my 700 has served me well over the last couple of years, and I was disappointed to hear that Sony have stopped making it.
Before Christmas, you could have picked up an a700 body only for less than £400. I paid 3 times that when it first came out

Still...life goes on

Thanks Sam

Here are a couple more from last night

This next one shows you the tree roots. The water often covers these roots, leaving the tree standing alone in the water

And a starry one without the tree highlighted.

Re: Loch Lomond at Dusk

Really love the sky in all these shots. I think #2 is my favourite out of all these shots, but I'm not sure if the rocks would have looked better in silhouette. I don't think I would have got any better results as I've never tried it before and I think it will take a lot of practice and trial and error to get the desired effect/illumination of these type of shots.

I was thinking about going there on both Saturday and Sunday but the birds at Lochwinnoch were calling me It was my intention to visit salochy bay, just down the road from milarrochy bay as there is a really nice spot with a pier that I wanted to photograph.

I've visited milarrochy on several occasions but each time the tide was low which was disappointing as the tree roots were visible. I think we will have to study the Moon's phases for the tides and go there in high tide. The pier in Balmaha is a nice spot to image as well and you can take your car down and park right next to it. Rowerdennan is nice too but much further.

The only thing I don't like about visiting the east side of Loch lomond is those damn gates (from balmaha onwards)they lock up each night at a certain time, and of course
there is no where else to park. Last year I was in the middle of doing a long exposure, just at the tree, when the warden came over and told me he was about to close and lock the gate. Where did you park Ian and were you out in time before they locked those gates?

Re: Loch Lomond at Dusk

Thanks DJ

I was like you. I parked in the car park but was told by the warden that she was closing the gates at 4pm. She said it was ok for me to park just on the other side of the gate, so I wasn't a million miles away which wasn't too bad.

The piers at Balmaha were one of the places I intended to stop on the way back, but I spent too long at the tree, and by the time I left it was pitch black, even though it was only about 7pm.

I'm going back up again soon, so if you hear if the water is high, then gimme a shout
