Yaquina Head Lighthouse

I was reading an online blog from Laurie Excell yesterday (http://laurieexcell.com/) and read about her relaxing day along the Oregon coast. She & her mother visited Yaquina Head Lighthouse and took a number of photographs. Laurie is a well renowned professional wildlife & nature photographer based close to me in Tigard, OR. After seeing the alluring lighthouse photos I decided to see if I could do as well as Laurie so I packed up two cameras & my tripod and headed for the coast this morning. It's a 115 mile drive one way to Newport, OR where you can find Yaquina Head Lighthouse. I had no problem doing so.

It's beautiful! There are plenty of open field of grass & wildflowers surrounding the area as well as cliffs filled with sea-lions and seagulls. What a postcard opportunity! I really like this shot of that lighthouse.

Re: Yaquina Head Lighthouse

115 miles, that's dedication Bob, looks as though it was worth the journey though.

Good Job Bob.

Re: Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Thank you everyone for looking and commenting. I feel I've given this photo an HDR look with a single exposure. I used Topaz Vivesa 2 to achieve this. I also took a few frames with my D7000 with a Tokina 11-16mm F/2.8 lens aboard. Here is that shot.

Re: Yaquina Head Lighthouse

The only little niggle, particularly with the second shot, is that it doesn't quite appear straight?

Check the left front edge of the lighthouse. It's perfectly parallel with the edge of the frame, as is the electrical box to the left of the building. The 14mm lens will tend to distort reality as the edges closest to you are exaggerated. The window is also straight up & down.

Re: Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Hmm, see though, I'd be inclined to try and correct that distortion as the house looks so off kilter it's quite distracting. Not to be criticising of course, just a little thing anyway
