Remote Controls

Hey everyone,

The OH bought me the gorillapod DSLR Zoom tripod for my D5000 for Xmas and so far i'm pretty pleased with it.

Last night I was thinking about attaching to the railing on our decking near the bird table on a dry day and using a remote control to snap some images of the birds without having to be so close to the table that they'll never come near it.

My question is and it's probably a stupid one but is it possible to use a remote control whilst sitting behind the camera. My idea is to set the camera up outside and then sit in the living room window and use the control to snap when the birds come in to land. Most of the write-ups for these controls say great for self portraits so i'm guessing from the fact they are infrared that i would need to be sat in front of the camera for this to work?

Any advice on this would be greatly received, there's no point spending money on a remote if it can't achieve what i want it to.

Thanks for the link, good to know that it can be used from all angles and at that price nothing ventured nothing gained!

I didn't realise I could use it tethered to my laptop, might have to do some research into that!
