Help with a UV filter

This will be going on my Canon 18-55 lens. I'm looking for one that will stop the sky at the side going white on a sunny bright day.
Loads out there but what do you have that works? A link would be good too thanks.

Re: Help with a UV filter

Hi Dave, you could use a ND graduated filter to help with the sky. Or do you mean a CP (circular polarising filter) to darken the sky?

What ever one works best if I'm side on to the sun. Stop that what fading across the sky if that's possible.

Re: Help with a UV filter

A polariser will not stop the change in colour across the frame of the image. It will in fact be the cause of a very deep blue sky fading to a lighter blue if mounted on a wide angle lens. See here for a good explanation of the the effect http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tu...larizers.shtml

Re: Help with a UV filter

Thanks for the help Z, Steve. If I'm honest I'm still confused. Is there anything that stops the colour change across the sky?
In the link Steve I googled some Lee stuff. Think I'm need to start putting the pennies in the jar
